Of course our route 29's used to be jointly operated by Stagecoach , Arriva , Brighton untill March (i think!) 2005. And Mr French recently changed the Uckfield - Tunbridge Wells number from 29 to 129 pointless? .... Brighton and hove operate Non low floor Scania cityzens on the route - it will be a shame to see these go but we are going to get some newer Scania ominidekkas soon! should be fun for me then!

I think the reason for the number change was to try to avoid EU legislation (which applies if a bus route exceeeds 50km in length)...it was probably felt that if Brighton - Uckfield was registered as a 29 and Uckfield - Tunbridge Wells was separately registered as a 129 that might get the route out of EU scope...
Unfortunately, if the drivers continue through, it seems the ploy doesn't work...might be different if the drivers didn't go through, but there are no real legal precedents since the famous Northumbria case
Thats a good guess :) i don't really have a clue why they have done it but it doesn't really effect me or the timings of the route! Thanks for your post :-)
It`s true. I was in training school while they were doing it and it confused the hell out of everyone and screwed up all the drivers` schedules. Add to that they also had to throw all the tachograph fitted vehicles onto it as they have to be used and all the vehicles for the other town routes got mixed up as well
Oh that explains why i see so many odd working Ominidekkas on that route then!
